Schneider, Magnus. 26th Wisconsin
Terry, Here is information on Corp. Magnus
Schneider. Company E, 26th Wisc.Infantry. Captured at Dallas,
Ga. 5-25-1864. Died at Andersonville 9-24-1864 of Scorbutus.
I also have this tidbit: Battle near
Dallas, Georgia May 25th. Co. E Corp. M. Schneider slightly wounded.
It is believed he was captured at the 'Battle of
New Hope Church'.
Info. from a Certificate that I have:
enlisted into military service on the 15th day of August 1862 at Fond du lac,
Wi. for a term of three years. Private Schneider was born in Germany and
resided at Fond du lac, Ws. He was promoted to Corporal on the 1st day
of August, 1865(?) and fought in the battles of Chancellorsville, Petersburg
and part of the Atlantic Campaign. The records further show
that he was 19 yrs of age at enlistment, single, blue eyes, light hair, fair
complexion, and was 5' 4" in height. By occupation a farmer.
Cpl. Magnus Schneider is buried in grave number
9693 in section H of the national cemetery.
